I can’t believe it’s been one year since I embarked on a life of adventure. After leaving my career in Finance, I decided to have some fun and began bartending for a nightclub in Hollywood. The glitz and glamour of the city was new and exciting, but I felt like something was missing.
It was then, June 2011, that I decided to do something “crazy.” I left for a four month travel expedition through Australia, Southeast Asia and New Zealand. The past year has proven to be the most remarkable of my, now 24, years.

Hey! You are so inspiring!! I am in the same boat you were a year ago. I am an engineer just out of college and just got out of a 5 year relationship. I don’t know if I am ready for the corporate world just yet and I have had a passion for travel since my study abroad to Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic. Also, I have been volunteering since I was a sophomore in high school and want to continue that into my young adult life. All the amazing things you have done sounds like what I want to embark on in the coming year!! but I have three important questions
1. how do you make money to go on all of these fabulous trips
2. do you know people in all these countries or did you just meet people along the way
3. how do you know where to go in these places that you randomly decide to go to?
Thank you for documenting all of your amazing adventures! You are truly an amazing person!

Thanks for writing B! First of all, monetizing your travels is a huge process. One that I am currently developing myself! That’s why I launched The Blonde Abroad. As a way to develop a business model and brand strategy that would have potential to grow and shift as opportunities present themselves. Most of the time I have a friend, acquaintance or friend of a friend who I meet up with. A lot of the time though, I have met people along my travels and we embark on parts of the journey together. I am a random explorer for sure! There’s no real decision making process for me. The charitable aspect is usually the only thing I need to plan. I appreciate your encouragement! And please feel free to email me at [email protected] if you have any more questions! 🙂
You really know how to make a fellow travel blogger insanely jealous! I’ve always wanted to travel throughout Southeast Asia and Oceania, and seeing how much fun you had has turned that want into more of a need.
Southeast Asia is incredible… and super inexpensive once you get there! You can DO it!
