As a solo female traveler, I LOVE this article, so many fabulous points. I need to share this.

I have read a lot of the comments here and am happy to see young women travelling solo. But I want to put in my 2 cents worth for older women travelling solo as well. I have just turned 70 (but feel like a young person still) and I have travelled to many countries in this world on my own. I have never been scared for my safety in any of the 37 countries I have visited. I use good common sense on my travels and am very intent on my surroundings at all times. I have met so very many wonderful people everywhere I have been and I believe that solo travelers mix more often with those around them than people travelling with a friend or in a group and that is because we have to overcome any fear we may have of speaking with strangers if we are going to have a rich experience in travelling. It may surprise many to hear that I always stay in International Hostels as well because I know I am going to have people to talk with and hear where others recommend to go. Others may be afraid to travel solo because of what may happen to them but I can attest to the kindness of people wherever you go. I have never, ever had a need that was not met very promptly by others extending a helping hand. I believe there are far more good people in this world than evil people. My only recommendation is that solo travelers read all they can on what precautions to take in the countries they are travelling to and keep your head up and your eyes open at all times to what is going on around you. Wishing you all happy, enriching and safe travels wherever you go.
