Just turned 28 and have been wanting to travel alone for the longest time.. Still psyching myself up for it.. This article has been amazing.. Looking at safe and inexpensive places to go to in Europe now..:) do you book tours for when you get to the place or do you just wing it?

    • Thanks Frances! I haven’t done many group tours in my travels, but have done different walking tours, like Walks of Italy, when I want to get acclimated to new destinations! I would go with whichever you’re more comfortable with- some people like an itinerary and some like to make the plan up as they go 🙂

    Great blog Kiersten!
Since about age 12 I have taken flights on my own but only ever to places where I knew someone. I recently turned 27 and started seriously thinking about solo travel with friends and family not always willing or able to travel with me. I must admit being a single black female, racism in different countries as shown by the media does add another nerve-wracking factor and influences places I consider travelling to especially on my own.
Finally, I took my first ever proper solo trip to Nice for a long weekend (short trip from London). I actually enjoyed the independence of getting around and travelling to Monaco. The one thing was I didn’t really get to meet people as I was quite self conscious especially with my noteam so great French but it was definitely a relaxing trip.
I’m considering Bali next but I don’t know if I have the confidence to go that far by myself. Your pictures look fantastic though and I must admit your blog sure does make a girl want to pack a bag and take a trip☺✈

    • Hi there Adeline! It’s great to hear that you are taking strides to solo travel, and that you do have the drive to do so. I wouldn’t ever want you to feel uncomfortable in a destination, but sometimes getting out of your comfort zone can teach you a lot about yourself and your resiliency. Bali is an awesome destination for a solo traveler, as was Nice I imagine! Wishing you the best! xx
