  1. Hello Yes! Yes! Yes! I am a woman and I have traveled solo many times: seven trips to my favorite destination, Europe in five years. I started traveling solo by accident. My travel agent booked me, a South African on a British Airways flight without telling me I needed a transit visa to pass through Heathrow. I missed my panned bus tour and after losing my passport in the fiasco of being at the airport in a frenzy over the bad news, I decided to go it alone only two weeks later, new passport in hand. It was late autumn and my bus tour was the last for the season. Funny thing is, for a first solo tour I traveled not to, but through Naples, considered a dangerous city by all, not only for crime but for the Triangle of Death (health issue, cancer due to toxic waste dumps there). Anyway, my first solo trip abroad took me to the beautiful Amalfi Coast. Sorrento and the iconic Isle of Capri, glamorous island of the rich and famous. Following that trip I went back to Italy in the spring and spent a full day in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence and met a sweet local young man as I exited the gallery. My next 5 trips would all be to France, the fifth trip to France will in fact be in 12 days time.

What an awesome story! It’s so great when unexpected travel plans take you to beautiful places.

  2. Hi Kiersten.

I’ll be travelling solo to Thailand in a few weeks. I’m extremely nervous and at the same time super excited. It will be my first trip out of South Africa, hence the missed emotions..

I’m turning 26 in January and on my 25th birthday I promised myself that I’ll start doing things differently. Enjoying Life and being more adventurous..

If anybody has suggestion on places to go. Please let me know.

Thank you for the Blog. It’s very helpful.

    • That’s amazing! So great and you’re going to love it! You can refer to my Forum and FAQ for tips on Thailand Travel.
