Apart from my bias of being an American, I truly believe that everyone needs to explore the USA – yes, even those that already live here! The more I travel around the states, the more I realize that we have SO much to offer!
Each state offers something unique – whether you’re looking to experience a relaxing tropical holiday, snow filled adventure, or the wonders of our incredible National Parks, there’s something for every kind of traveler.
The United States is the perfect destination for scenic drives, delicious food, cosmopolitan city life, wilderness, cultural diversity, beautiful beaches, and so much more.
Due to the USA’s massive size, there is no bad time to visit the country. With so many climates and landscapes, it all depends on what you want to see and do during your vacation.
If you’re on a budget, you’ll want to plan your trip around Spring Break and the school holidays. Prices for flights and hotels increase over these periods, making it an expensive time to travel.
In the summer, the beach cities see a huge influx of tourists — but there’s a good reason! Coastal cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Charleston, and Miami are so beautiful, and perfect for catching some sunshine!
December to February is winter in the USA, but it’s one of the most beautiful times of year to visit! You’ll be around for Christmas in New York, and the National Parks look like winter wonderlands.
Language: The most commonly spoken language in the USA is English.
Currency: The currency in the USA is the US Dollar.
Credit Cards and ATMs: You can pay for almost anything with your credit or debit card in the USA. There are plenty of ATMs as well, and most machines will accept Mastercard and Visa.
Plugs: The plugs in the USA are type A and B. The standard voltage is 120 V, and the standard frequency is 60Hz. I recommend buying a universal adapter (make sure it has surge protection) and using a converter for hair dryers and hot tools.
Safety: The USA is generally a safe destination for solo female travelers. However, theft and muggings are common, so you’ll want to be aware of your surroundings especially in crowded areas.
Since the USA is so large, every state has different laws, “norms” and highlights to see — be sure to do your research before visiting and you’ll enjoy your time there!
When traveling around the US by bus, expect bus routes to be sold out. This is especially true for Greyhound, Megabus, and Bolt Bus. The seats are uncomfortably small, so you might find it more comfortable to purchase two seats next to each other if you have the financial means to do so.
