Located between South Africa and Tanzania, Mozambique is a country often overlooked by travelers heading to the African continent.
With one of the longest coastlines in the world, beautiful pristine beaches, delicious seafood, world-class diving conditions, and a culture unlike any other, Mozambique is a tropical paradise.
As a heads up, Mozambique is a developing nation, and due to that, it doesn’t have a ton of infrastructure. However, its stunning coastlines and gorgeous nature will leave you absolutely breathless.
The weather in Mozambique can be quite unpredictable, making picking the best time to visit a little tricky.
From December to March, the country is met with steamy thunderstorms, random downpours, and high humidity. During this season, you may not have the ideal Indian Ocean conditions, however, the water is warm, prices are low, and makes for some top-notch diving.
Come May, the rain has stopped, and the humidity has gone down, perfect for some beach time. June through September has always been known as the “best” months to visit, but it’s also when hotel prices go up. If you want to beat the crowds, October and November are much like April, with low rates, warm weather, and fewer tourists.

Language: The official language of Mozambique is Portuguese, although it is a multilingual state. In fact, it has been found that up to 43 languages are spoken across the country. But, most people that work in tourism speak English conversationally.
Currency: The official currency of Mozambique is the Mozambican metical (MZN). 1 USD is equivalent to approx. 64 MZN.
Credit Cards & ATMs: Credit cards are accepted at most high-end hotels, midrange places, and some rental car spots. Other than that, credit card use is limited in the country. If you need some cash, ATMs can be found in most larger and smaller towns. It’s wise to use a Visa when using the ATM as Mastercard, and other cards, are not as widely accepted.
Plugs: In Mozambique, the standard plug is type C, F, and M, the standard voltage is 220 V, and the standard frequency is 50 Hz. I recommend buying a universal adapter (make sure it has surge protection) and using a converter for hairdryers and hot tools.
Safety: Africa, as a whole, has gotten a bad rap of being unsafe. Yet In Mozambique, the biggest issue you might run into is petty theft and pickpocketing. Other than that, the country is a safe destination for tourists. Be vigilant and exercise caution, and you will have a wonderful vacation!
