When most people think of planning a trip to Central America, Belize is often overlooked, but it’s truly a hidden paradise. The minute you arrive, you will be with warm smiles from the locals, stunning dense jungles, impressive Mayan ruins, and then some.
Whether you’re looking to explore Belize underneath the surface while snorkeling or you want to trek through the jungle, it’s an awesome destination for every traveler.
The best time to visit Belize is during the dry season, late November to mid-April, but it’s also the busiest. However, the minute you soak up the warm temps and sunny skies, you’ll find that the long lines are an easy sacrifice.
Come June through mid-November, expect showers, intense humidity, and strong winds. These months also bring hurricanes to the coast so if you’re willing to risk it, be sure to check the weather forecast beforehand.
If you want to beat the crowds and enjoy a tranquil vacation, visit during the rainy season in September and October. Just be sure to pack an umbrella, and don’t forget that some establishments shut down during this offseason.

Language: The official language of Belize is English, making it the only country in Central America that speaks English.
Currency: The currency of Belize is the Belize dollar (BZD).
Credit Cards & ATMs: Most major credit cards are accepted in Belize, especially Visa and Mastercard. American Express may not be accepted at smaller restaurants, hotels, and tour operators. Like with any other destination, it is wise to carry some cash with you at all times. Unfortunately, ATMs are not consistent throughout the country. You will find ATMs in big cities, including Belize City, San Pedro, Caye Caulker, San Ignacio, and more. Luckily, many establishments will also take the US dollar.
Plugs: In Belize, the power plugs are type A, B, and G, the standard voltage is 110 / 220 V, and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. I recommend buying a universal adapter (make sure it has surge protection) and using a converter for hairdryers and hot tools.
Safety: Belize is a generally safe country for visitors. Depending on who you ask, that might change. Others will say that criminal activity is a big problem. Luckily, illegal activity remains pretty low in popular tourist areas, and it is found that tourists are not targeted.
