I’ll 2nd K’s recommendation,Playa is a fine small city with the beach near to everything. But like everyplace in Mexico, expect to lose power, water or coverage at least once a week.

Fantastic pictures, your pic of Bacalar really made me feel “homesick” for Mexico. We spent 3 days last year camping on the banks of the lake in total privacy, it was AMAZING, we voted it our most favorite place in Mexico, even beating 3 months living in our RV at a campsite on Xpu Ha beach – best beach on the Mayan Riviera by our vote too. Diving with the giant turtles at Akumal is a bucket list item for everyone to my mind and as a previous commentator stated as far as ruins go Palenque was the best, if you can drag yourself away from the beach to get there you’ll never regret it!
