  1. Great points. I ended up going with IMG Global for health insurance which covers me globally (provided I’m out of the U.S. for at least 6 months). Currently, in Goa, India where health issues are plenty, but no claims needed yet.

  2. Kiersten have you used World Nomads? Have you had to file a claim with them? The top benefit that makes me want to travel is to photograph amazing places, but the top thing that has always prevented me from doing so is the fear of getting my camera stolen. I have taken all the safety precautions I can think of, but I am terrified of getting robbed. The reason I want travel insurance is so that it can replace my camera if it is stolen.

    • Yes they’re definitely my #1 recommendation! I can’t guarantee they cover stolen cameras, but you can contact support to clarify. I’ve made claims for health related stuff when I had to visit the hospital and they reimbursed me for my bills within 30 days. It was great.

    • @Jessie – YES World Nomads does reimburse for stolen cameras as long as you were “responsibly taking care of it.”

If you get pick pocked/robbed or you left it in a locked place you will get reimbursed.

However, from what I understand, if you left the camera at the beach all day and then came back and it was gone you wouldn’t get reimbursed because you “lost it do to negligence.”
