I moved to Cape Town in January 2017 and The Silo Hotel opened along with the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA) in March of that same year. I remember the excitement around it and spent countless evenings living at the rooftop bar and restaurant during my four years living there.
Fast forward to 2023 when I visited with my family and was invited to stay at the hotel for the first time.
This boutique hotel, known as one of the best in the world, lived up to all the hype.
The design? Absolutely stunning.
This luxurious 5-star property completely wowed me—here’s everything you need to know about staying at The Silo Hotel in Cape Town.

Getting There
Located above the V&A Waterfront, The Silo Hotel is a quick 25-minute drive from the airport.
I recommend taking an Uber to the hotel to enjoy a stress-free start to your stay – it’s the best way to get around Cape Town, in my experience.

About The Silo Hotel
The Silo Hotel is an architectural masterpiece with a fascinating history. Once a grain silo, this historic building has been transformed into a luxurious hotel.
Occupying six floors above the Zeitz MOCAA, the hotel’s design perfectly blends its industrial heritage with chic modern elements.
The standout feature?
Those incredible 56-paneled glass windows – an ode to the pressure of the grain once packed into the silos. They create such a cool contrast against the old structure and offer amazing views of the city and Table Mountain.
And the interiors are super quirky and unique only adding to the allure of the hotel!

The Rooms
The rooms at The Silo Hotel start at around $1,000, but if you’re already going to splurge, I’d recommend booking a suite instead of a room for the full design experience. While the “rooms” feature quirky decor, the suites offer those iconic multi-faceted windows.
We stayed in the penthouse, which boasted amazing panoramic views of Cape Town. It included a cinema room, a spa treatment room, two walk-in wardrobes, two marble bathrooms, and two private balconies.
It was INCREDIBLE.
Our room was refreshed twice daily, had a stocked mini-bar, and every evening they’d bring different canapés for us to enjoy. With only 28 rooms and suites, you can expect top-tier, dedicated service!

The Dining
Breakfast is complimentary for all guests at The Silo and is served in the hotel’s signature restaurant, Granary Cafe, perched on the sixth floor. Each morning begins with the “harvest table”, a delicious medley of yogurt, granola, fresh fruit, smoked salmon, cheeses, and pastries.
Cape Town has an incredible food scene, and the dinner at the Granary is no different.
Time your meal with sunset for spectacular views across the harbor through the geometric windows. With a menu featuring contemporary and classic dishes, plus an extensive wine and cocktail list, you’ll find yourself coming back night after night.
For a pre-dinner cocktail and light snack, head up to The Silo Rooftop on the 11th floor. The views are beyond impressive.

Pool & Gym
During your stay, don’t miss a swim in the rooftop glass pool with 360-degree views of the city.
Whether you’re lounging poolside or taking a dip, it’s a wonderful way to soak in the harbor and take in the stunning scenery from a whole new perspective.
The Silo’s gym, like the pool, is open 24/7, allowing you to fit in a workout whenever it suits you. Although it’s on the smaller side, it’s well-equipped with everything you need, from cardio machines to free weights so you can easily maintain your fitness routine even while on vacation.

Activities & Experiences
From The Silo Hotel, you can dive into Cape Town’s many activities.
Start by exploring the Zeitz MOCAA, just an elevator ride downstairs and home to Africa’s largest collection of contemporary African art. And with the V&A Waterfront on your doorstep, you’ll find a great mix of dining spots, shops, and entertainment to explore just steps away.
Enjoy a beachfront bike ride (the hotel can arrange bikes) and a dip in the tidal pools, or take a leisurely stroll along the Sea Point promenade.
No trip to Cape Town is complete without a visit to Table Mountain.
Though getting up early might not sound tempting on vacation, catching the first light from the summit is worth the early wake-up! Check with the concierge for hiking routes, or you can opt for a scenic ride to the top in the cable car.

The Silo Spa
The hotel spa offers a wide variety of treatments at rather reasonable prices. From traditional massages and facials to wellness treatments, you’re truly spoilt for choice.
Located on the fourth floor, along with the gym, the spa features a double-treatment room, sauna, and a dedicated manicure and pedicure area.
It’s the perfect way to rejuvenate after your long travels so you start your trip feeling like a million bucks!
