    Do you taste the anise or is it just an ingredient? I would love to try this the next time we have some friends over, but cannot stand licorice.

      Hey Jennifer! Good question and you’re completely free to customize this to your preference. You don’t have to include it if you don’t want, but overall I would say it’s not licorice-y at all (I’m not a fan either). The spices and the wine meld together to be very pleasant. If you’ve ever had the Vietnamese soup of pho, star anise is typically used to make the broth but I wouldn’t say you notice it, it just adds another note and complexity to the overall flavor 🙂
