Last year, I had a serious back injury and my health took a toll. Then the pandemic hit; I ate my way through all of our snacks (and then some), and put on a bit of quarantine weight.
After a few months, I decided to get back into shape and starting implementing better eating habits and working out.
I was able to lose the quarantine pounds, but my healthy habit of working out didn’t stick. And then I ended up in the hospital.
After a whirlwind of setbacks, I’m now in a place where I really want to focus on my health. I’ve lost quite a bit of muscle mass and flexibility, and my core strength is seriously lacking.
And the best way to prevent future back injuries? Strengthen the core!
I wouldn’t consider myself the most sporty person or someone who really likes to work out — so when researching options for getting back into shape, there are a number of things that need to be taken into consideration:
I get bored with workouts easily. I need to have some form of accountability. My schedule is all over the place — sometimes I’m home, sometimes I’m traveling. I’m not a fan of running. And I need to make accommodations to prevent back injuries.
I know, I know, I’m a little picky…but low and behold, I found a program that works for me!
Here’s how I’m using Future Fitness App to get back into shape — the best personal training app for frequent travelers!
What is Future Fitness App
Future is an app that fuses the virtual online platform with personal training. The belief behind Future is that everyone is different — so shouldn’t each person have a bespoke program dedicated to their goals and fitness level?
Essentially, it’s like having a personal trainer in your pocket!
Try Future
Here’s the short and sweet version of how it works:
- Download the app on your phone.
- Fill out a quick questionnaire about your goals.
- Explore the coaches to find the right fit.
- Get moving with workouts designed just for you each week.
- Track and fine-tune your progress with your Future Coach!
The idea behind it is really cool because you can pick your own coach from a myriad of folks who are seriously qualified (if not overqualified).
You and your coach will discuss your fitness goals — are you looking to get leaner, stronger, get active again, simply sweat and have fun, improve your performance, or reduce pain or injury?
I love that from the get-go it’s all about customization and figuring out what works for you! Your coach will take into account how often you would like to work out, what equipment you have available, your goals and current fitness level, as well as what your schedule looks like.
From there, it’s one-on-one coaching!
Every Sunday, your coach will create a custom training plan for the week based on your schedule and your progress — so you can see an overview of what your week looks like in terms of movement.
If you’re unable to get your workout in, they’ll rearrange your workout schedule, or if you’re traveling — they’ll design a workout for your to do in your hotel room.
You’ll also have constant contact with your coach. They check in daily via texting through the app to keep you on track and see how you’re doing.
Using Future Fitness App
Once I downloaded the app, I found my trainer, Joseph. I FaceTimed with him and we chatted about my goals and all of my caveats: I had a previous back injury, I get bored really easily, we talked about what equipment I have at home, and what my schedule looks like.
He listened to everything I said and I’ve been super impressed!
The workouts he’s been creating are interesting and keep me engaged, he took into account that I don’t like running, and he even plugged in Peleton workouts (which I love!).
As a heads up, you do need an Apple Watch to track your heart rate and progress. I already wore an Apple Watch, so for me, this was awesome as everything is super seamless and takes all the data without me having to plug anything in post-workout.
Regarding the app itself, the User Experience is AWESOME. (It doesn’t come as a surprise though — the team behind Future comes from companies like Apple, Nike, Google, Fitbit, Square, and the NBA).
I’ve used workout apps in the past that were kind of clunky and Future is anything but that.
Future combines tech, elite personal training, and customization. So, for someone who is super into smart tech and making things as efficient as possible, this is the best of both worlds.
Each workout is demonstrated with a video and your coach can go in with voice notes to make any modifications or provide encouragement throughout the workout. Plus, you can have a playlist running in the background at the same time.
It’s pretty darn cool!
My Experience Using Future Fitness App
I’m loving that the workouts are constantly changing — again, I get really bored if I have to do the same movements over and over again, so with Future, the workouts are tailored to me and keep things interesting.
Plus, the fact that he was able to incorporate Peleton workouts (which I love) is a really cool bonus.
Because I’m always in communication with my coach, I’ve definitely noticed that I’m more accountable and motivated to get my workout in.
In the past, I’ve been really prone to falling off the workout wagon because of my travel schedule. Again, good intentions — but then I would miss a few days, and then it would become a few more, and all of the sudden, it’s been a month and I’ve lost all hope for whatever program I was following.
As Future is so flexible and my coach takes into account my travel dates and what I’ll have access to, it truly helps me build workouts into my schedule.
For folks who are also on the go — this is for you!
Future is ideal for those who want a customized plan with a personal trainer but who also travel a lot.
Whether you need accountability, help with workouts, or finding things that work for you — I would definitely recommend this app!

These apps look great – while we’re usually travelling for business, it’s great to make sure that there’s a way to build in a way to train if the hotel doesn’t have gym facilities! Plus these will be great for home workouts too!
Absolutely! I’m not doing much traveling right now but it’s making working out at home a much better option for me 🙂
