  1. I’m usually a big fan of your blog, but I don’t understand why you would encourage people to attend this festival.
I’m aware that it is an old tradition, but the bulls are treated so poorly!
These are wild animals, not entertainment. It’s hard for the bulls to navigate the streets and extremely stressful. Not to mention the bullfighting, it is beyond my understanding, why people find it fun to watch violence towards innocent animals.

Please consider going to some of the other fun and non-violent events in Spain!

    • Hi Sophie, Thanks for commenting!
As I’m sure you know, not all cultural traditions are within our understanding, and that is okay. You don’t have to agree with it and I too felt uncomfortable with the bull fighting portion of the festival. However, because I went, I learned a lot more about the tradition that I didn’t know rather than making assumptions. I was told that raising a fighting bull is a great honor. The bulls are treated as such until they are between 6-8 years old when they are ready to fight. The bulls even have names and are featured in the pamphlets at the bull fight. While I am not justifying it, comparing it to the conditions that we raise cattle in to slaughter for the mass production of meat, where cows are confined in poor conditions for their entire lives, I can’t say the USA isn’t doing worse. That’s just my perspective, and so I wanted to share information to help other travelers experience the events for themselves as well.

  2. This looks like so much fun!
