  1. Thanks for this. I really want to go, really Really want to go and I am thinking about it for next year. I just have to have enough money to get to the states 🙂 This is really useful.

    • Awesome! Hope you get the chance to go!

  2. Ohhh I’ve heard so many good stories, can’t wait to go but it’s so damn expensive, I’d have no idea how to really get there with all the stuff you’d have to purchase just for a week of fun in the desert. Who knows, maybe some day.

    • If you fly in, I recommend heading to a supermarket and you can bring everything in in big plastic storage containers.

It’s definitely a bit tough to do on a budget if you’re flying in. I drove up from LA, but have to admit it was a long drive and fueling an RV isn’t cheap.

Another alternative is to join a theme camp where you chip in X $ and volunteer X hours to the camp. That way, all food and cooking gear is brought to the Playa for you. I started doing this after my 1st burn and have never looked back. I enjoy sharing meals with 30-50 friends and the quality is much better than I would do on my own. Be careful though. There are some people who do a much better job at this than others. Ask around, get a recommendation first.

Here’s the secret—@homeexchangecom. It’s a social network where you swap homes with fellow travelers, whether it’s an apartment or a house.

While we stayed in a gorgeous, centrally located apartment in Manhattan to celebrate the holiday season, our guests enjoyed a sunny winter in Southern California while staying in our cozy home. It’s a win-win!

No expensive hotel stays, no home sitters needed. Home exchange saves you thousands by giving you a free place to stay in someone else’s home.

You can filter your search for homes with a pool or something pet-friendly or kid-friendly to find your perfect home away from home.

We left a little welcome basket and some local travel tips for our guests to make it extra special for them.

So whether it’s a modern apartment in the city or a beach house getaway, this travel hack can make your dream vacation a reality.

I highly recommend staying a night or 2 at @themanor_house in The Cotswolds.

It’s located in the tiny, picturesque village of Castle Combe—one of my favorite stops of our trip.

We had the entire village to ourselves early in the morning and at sunset which was so magical!
