More helpful honeymoon tips from our Couples Travel Experts, Samantha & Ryan, of Our Travel Passport!
Your honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime event, so make it an experience you’ll never forget! It’s the perfect opportunity to choose a luxurious and romantic location that both of you have only ever dreamed of going to.
Planning a surprise honeymoon for your spouse will help take some of the stress off of her while she’s in the midst of wedding planning, but make sure to think about these things beforehand, so everything runs smoothly and you can both enjoy your honeymoon to its fullest.
Here’s our tips to plan a surprise honeymoon!
Agree on Dates Beforehand
Make sure you agree on what dates you’ll be traveling beforehand. Are you going immediately after your wedding day or are you going to wait a few weeks before you head off?
Also, make sure you think about the weather in the areas that you’re wanting to go.
Will it be rainy season, dry season, or hurricane season? If the weather won’t be ideal, consider choosing another location.
Create a Honeymoon Wishlist Together
Talk about the kinds of places you’d both love to go to, which activities you’d want to participate in, and other details like how you both imagine spending time on your dream honeymoon. Do you want to lay by a private pool, surf from sunrise to sunset, or hike to the top of a mountain?
Pick somewhere that suits both of your interests.
Think About Packing in Advance
Give your bride an idea of the climate, so she can know what to pack. Will you be spending a lot of time at the beach, or will most of your time be spent hiking? Just because you tell her you’re going somewhere tropical doesn’t mean she’ll know exactly where.
You could be going to Hawaii, French Riviera, or Turks and Caicos. But trust us, she’ll appreciate knowing what kind of clothing she should pack.

Plan Small Surprises
If your new spouse is the type of person that doesn’t like big surprises, you don’t have to surprise her with the location of your honeymoon. You can still surprise her by planning small surprises for her throughout your trip.
Consider upgrading to first class airfare, covering the hotel room in rose petals, having a surprise candlelit dinner for two, spending a day at the spa, leaving her a love letter on her pillow, or having late night room service (because isn’t the way to everyone’s heart through their stomach?).
Think about surprising her when planning activities as well.
When the two of you arrive, you can plan activities together, but if she’s always dreamed of swimming with dolphins or riding in a helicopter, arrange for that ahead of time and surprise her the morning of.
Let the Hotel Know
Let the hotel know you will be celebrating your honeymoon! They will be more likely to upgrade your room and give you various other gifts to help you celebrate. They will also be more than happy to help you turn your surprises into a reality.
Some hotels even have honeymoon and wedding specialists that are there to make sure you get the very most out of your experience.
Whether you tell her in the car on the way to the airport or she finds out by seeing the destination on the screen once you arrive at the gate, she’ll definitely be excited. And remember, this trip is the beginning of the two of you starting your life together, so no matter where you go or how it’s planned…
your honeymoon will be the trip of a lifetime.
