Say “NO” to Sweatpants

We’ve all had those days when all we feel comfortable in is sweatpants and a baggy t-shirt. Either we don’t think we look our best or we just want something loose and comfy.

Sweatpants are not the answer.

Every girl should own a black maxi skirt. It is the sexiest alternative to sweatpants and they are even more comfortable. Find a skirt that sits high on the narrowest part of your waistline and save the hiphugger maxi skirt for the summer. The high waist and floor length of this skirt is slimming and lengthening.

Pair the black maxi skirt with a fall color, such as burgundy, to bring life to your skin. I get really fair in the winter so focusing on rich shades helps. Plus I just love this color.

It looks good on every skin tone and with every hair color.

The high-low cut of the sweater is perfectly paired with a maxi skirt. It’s still loose fitting but the subtle hint of midriff is flattering to your figure. With this outfit, I feel comfortable but also feminine.

I complete the outfit with some combat boots and knee-high black leggings for warmth and comfort. The tan bag is practical but adds yet another colorful element. It can be held as a handbag or a backpack so it’s perfect for walking around and exploring town.

I’ve styled this outfit with a simple but bold necklace. You’ll notice I chose a longer length. Sweaters can make you look bulky or boxy so this is a good trick to draw attention to your waistline instead of your chest.

This outfit is perfect for:

Travel, of course! The materials don’t wrinkle so it’s ready to go straight out of the suitcase. I wear this outfit when strolling big cities like

London, Los Angeles or Paris.

It’s all-day wear that’s still practical.

  1. SO glad someone finally wrote a post about how completely wrong sweatpants are. And like you, a black maxi is one of my favorite alternatives.

Also, last week in St. Andrews I found the most beautiful gray heather wool knit maxi in a store called “White Stuff.” Maxi skirts are just one of those items which can’t be overrated.

Agreed! I wear a maxi dress when on long haul flights because I refuse to wear sweat pants…just because you’re travelling doesn’t mean you need to look like a slob!

FInding practical travel clothes is such a chore. In South America I slouched through countries with sundresses but in other countries it was tough to think of versatile clothes that would look great anywhere. Love the idea for this series.

Thanks Ayngelina! I totally know what you mean but I’ve learned (through trial and error) what works and what is just plain not fun when traveling. Fabrics and fit are so important!

  4. Can’t say that I’m really into “Fashion Fridays”, but luckily I am into good-looking blondes ;)

This article makes me happy that I’m a guy — one who doesn’t think about what textures, colours, and fabrics go with what — but even I know not to wear sweatpants.

  5. Great idea! I love the idea of wearing a maxi skirt on the plan too. I usually opt for yoga pants for flights but they do look sloppy.

  6. You look lovely! I aspire to look like you when I’m traveling. Haha. Maybe a black maxi will help the situation!

I couldn’t agree more about the sweat pants, but for some reason I’m afraid of the maxi skirt. I don’t know how it would look on a curvy girl. Maybe I’ll give one a shot – at least try it on.

You have completely sold me on this maxi. I’m ordering it today – long skirts are definitely the answer to non-sloppy travel clothes, though I find that leggings come in a close second.

So I remember reading this post when it first came out a month ago, and it has stuck with me ever since. The other day I came across the PERFECT black maxi skirt (for me anyways) and it was 40% off! Score!

I know that I am already going to be wearing it non stop, even though I am not currently travelling.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

I’m considering doing a style series on my blog- I am not as glamorous as you but completely agree that we don’t all need zip off cargos and t-shirts!
